EMBODIED WISDOM RETREAT - the Essence of Vedanta and a Life of Embodiment
Some words from Sharada Devi:
“Imagine gazing into a mirror that reflects back your wholeness, showing you that you are already complete, perfect, and deeply lovable, just as you are. Picture yourself being guided to honor your body as a sacred temple, learning to appreciate it fully and releasing emotions through sacred expression.”
This vision is about to become a reality.
In 2027 we gather for the 12 th annual Vedanta Retreat, now incorporating deeper embodiment rituals and an extra day to allow for more connection and exploration together.
For many years, it has been my privilege to facilitate this retreat, hosted by the beautiful Villa Söderåsen in the serene South of Sweden. Each year, we gather to explore life’s most profound questions and experience clarity, freedom, and a sense of belonging that is hard to find elsewhere.
Whether you are seeking to connect more deeply with yourself, your spiritual path, or find answers to fundamental questions about life, this retreat is for you.
It is a space where you can receive devotional tools, clear guidance, and support on how to bring these transformative teachings into your daily life.
Guided by my 20 years of experience and unwavering dedication to the path of freedom, and supported by my host and team, it is a joy to welcome you.
Over the years, people have traveled from across the globe to attend—some from as far as the United States, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Norway, Denmark and other countries—each seeking to immerse themselves in the timeless wisdom of Vedanta. For many, this retreat has become an annual tradition, with one participant attending for the 9th time.
The teachings of Vedanta have transformed my life, guiding me toward a path of inner freedom and fulfillment. Once you’ve tasted the sweet nectar of non-duality, there’s no turning back. Life may still present challenges, but you face them with the knowledge that you are free no matter what.
During this retreat, we will explore the deeper questions of life:
• Who am I, truly?
• Is there life after death?
• What is the purpose of life?
• Are we really separate, or is there a deeper connection?
• Can we live fearlessly?
• How to embrace trauma stored in the body?
These are the inquiries that bring us closer to understanding our true nature. We don’t need to wait for a catastrophe to explore these questions. Instead, we prepare ourselves for life’s challenges—old age, disease, death, and other difficulties—by understanding the impermanence of circumstances and the eternal nature of the Self.
Through the lens of Vedanta, we learn to live with deep reverence for both life and death. We discover stability, security, and fulfillment in that which never changes.
So if you feel called to join us, you are warmly invited.
With love and deep gratitude to all the wonderful participants who have shared their presence over the years. This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to continue this sacred journey with you.”
/Sharada Devi

ABOUT Shāradā Devī
Shāradā Devī** is a spiritual mentor, ceremonialist, educator, and founder of Devi School, where ancient wisdom meets embodied, contemporary spirituality.
Born to Swiss and Filipina parents and raised between the Swiss Alps and the Philippines, Shāradā grew up within two very different cultural worlds. In Davos, she was surrounded by snow, fine dining, precision, achievement, and the refined codes of European society. In the Philippines, she ate with her hands, slept beneath the stars on the 100 Islands, and was held within the warmth of her grandmother Lola, who had given birth to 15 children and whose life was woven into a family of more than 70 people.
These contrasting environments shaped Shāradā deeply. One world emphasized individuality, ambition, status, and personal achievement; the other was rooted in family, community, simplicity, and *kapwa*—the Filipino understanding of shared identity and interconnected humanity. Living between these worlds brought both richness and inner conflict, but it also gave her an intimate understanding of duality, belonging, and the longing to feel whole.
Shortly after turning 18, Shāradā travelled to India, driven by a profound ache and a desire for freedom beyond the familiar structures of her upbringing. During a plant-medicine ceremony guided by four Babas, she underwent an intense spiritual experience that she understood as an awakening into the recognition of oneness. Although doctors later diagnosed the experience as psychosis, Shāradā chose to meet it with humility, discernment, and an enduring commitment to discovering her own truth.
Her path carried her through India, Venezuela’s La Gran Sabana and Salto Ángel, temazcal ceremony, devotional temple traditions, and eventually Bali—the island of a thousand temples—which has been her home for the past 17 years. Across these journeys, she has continued to explore the meeting point between spiritual experience, psychological integration, cultural tradition, and embodied human life.
For more than 24 years, Shāradā has immersed herself in the spiritual heritage of the Vedic tradition. She has studied, practised, assimilated, and taught Vedānta, Sanskrit, Vedic chanting, Āyurveda, Pūjā, yoga, and sacred ritual under the guidance of teachers within the lineage of Swami Dayānanda Saraswati, as well as respected teachers in their respective fields.
At the heart of her work is the recognition that our essential nature is whole, limitless, and not separate from life. For Shāradā, this understanding is not merely philosophical. It is a lived practice of learning to rest in reality as it is—to meet each moment with openness, including the painful, the pleasurable, the uncertain, and the beautiful. This embodied freedom, known in Sanskrit as *moksha*, is the deepest return on our lifelong investment: immeasurable, priceless, and available through a gradual process of self-acceptance and clear seeing with the help of the timeless teachings of Vedanta.
Shāradā’s teachings are also shaped by her background in Odissi, the classical Indian dance tradition with roots in temple ritual, and by her work in inner-child healing, trauma integration, sacred sexuality, and relational embodiment. As a certified VITA Sex, Love & Relationship Coach, Sacred Sexuality Teacher, and philosophy educator, she bridges ancient teachings with the realities of modern life.
Through Devi School, she offers certification programs, immersive retreats, personalised mentorship, and educational experiences for emerging teachers, facilitators, and conscious leaders. Her work invites people to reconnect with their bodies, their inherent wholeness, their capacity for intimacy, and the freedom to live with greater truth and aliveness.
Shāradā shares her teachings internationally through her online platform, annual festival appearances, retreats, and collaborations with leading yoga teacher-training programmes. Her approach is at once rooted and expansive: grounded in lineage, informed by lived experience, and devoted to helping people discover that spirituality is not an escape from life, but a way of meeting life more fully.
